Should I hire or outsource my internet/social media work?

Over the years, the amount of time I spend updating profiles, adding links, articles and so forth has grown from a few hours a week to a few hours a day. This is eating into my creative time and having me think I should hire a person outright to do this, perhaps from the local college/tech school, or find someone out there online to outsource.

Any thoughts from anyone? Or are there any companies within Manta that provide outsourcing to do this?

Thanks,

Hi John,

Every Website owner who has already enjoyed a degree of success with his/her own SEO work eventually asks this question. I congratulate you, because you are about to move to your next level in the journey.

You bet there are companies on Manta and everywhere else who will do this kind of work for you. I'm sure they will be chiming in any minute now. Before they arrive, PLEASE read the following very carefully:

I have counseled with hundreds of Website owners since the year 2000 regarding their sites' search engine friendliness and other aspects of their online marketing. Before addressing any new member's question, I always like to state the obvious: BEWARE. Everyone here seems to have an answer, depending on what Website marketing service they want to sell to you. Some are slicker than others. Here are some of the categories that your respondents will be in:

  • Website owners who mean well but are passing on limited, outdated and/or just plain wrong and unwise information without realizing it;
  • Owners of various Website service companies who are knowledgeable and really just want to help you whether they snag you as a client or not;
  • Owners of various Website service companies who are sometimes knowledgeable but whose priority is to prey on your lack of Internet marketing knowledge for their own gain.
You're in a precarious position until you know whose motives and advice you can trust. Make no mistake about it: there are many snakes here and in other similar forums who only seek to pounce on your wallet, whether it really helps you or not. But whether your advisers are snakes or otherwise, the rule of thumb to follow is:

Always test the trustworthiness of someone's Website advice based on the results that they claim to get for their clients. NEVER trust any advice you see on Manta, any other forum, or any form of advertising until you do this. Take nothing for granted, including anything you read from ME! Do the verifying yourself rather than take the marketer's word for anything. You can see and verify our results HERE. The snakes here all talk a good game about whatever they want to sell to you, but have only fabricated results (or NO results) to back it up. Some will try to tell you that they are experts in all areas of Internet marketing. Many of those don't even have basic spelling and grammar skills, let alone any results that support their assertions. Some of them, surprisingly, are nonetheless adept at baffling the uninformed with BS (broccoli spears) to make it sound like they know what they are talking about. Would you go to a general practitioner for brain surgery? No, you would see a specialist. You've heard the saying, "Jack of all trades, master of none"? Multitudes of new Website owners get taken to the cleaners every year by bad (or just misinformed) people, and you don't want to be one of their victims. This goes for posters offering social media help, Web design, search engine optimization (SEO), press releases, directory submissions, videos, affiliate opportunities, and everything else under the sun. Some of them are even affiliated with large, well known companies like banks! There is so much garbage floating around the N.E.T. ("Not Entirely True") about online marketing that it's really sickening. However, when you find someone who offers a service and their testimonials check out, you probably have a winner as long as they are addressing your biggest priorities first.

With that out of the way, I took a 1-minute look at just your home page and see that your own SEO efforts need work., including full keyword research. You are wise to seek the next level now.

Please visit our Website's Testimonials page and look at the results we achieve. Then contact us if you would like a free, no-obligation SEO assessment with a consultation to talk about it.

I wish you success in business, and in life.

Cordially,

Hi Steve,

While I usually admire anyone who calls himself a wordsmith, I must ask a question and make a request concerning your services.

When you offer people fresh content as you did above, do you deliver it to the client in SEO-ready format?

I ask because the exact configuration of Web page textual content is crucial to the success of the overall SEO effort. Beyond creating little or no positive effect, incorrectly configured Web page content can actually have a DRASTICALLY NEGATIVE effect on the SEO results of a Web page. In turn, this reduces the Web page's ability to attract the maximum number of visitors. With fewer visitors, there are fewer customers. Web page content must serve a veritable symbiosis of two distinct purposes: to engage search engines as well as the humans that those search engines bring to the page.

Correctly strategizing Web page textual content is a specialty unto itself that is well beyond literary prose in its complexity and scope. Web page content written by anyone who is not a qualified SEO specialist amounts to a recipe for failure, regardless of how many degrees in other fields of endeavor they might possess.

Would you, by chance, have online examples of your Web page content work available? I did not find any Web page content testimonials on your Website. If I see that your skills in this area are on the mark, you and I may indeed have some happy things to discuss.

Cordially,

Hi John,

Outsourcing would probably help, and there are a number on companies on manta that could help you, including Image Building Web Design.

I would suggest a design update to your site to give it a modern look and feel, do SEO including an analysis of keywords, and then integrate the big social media sites. Since you are selling B2B, there's a high probability that you'll reach more of these customers with Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+ than with Facebook.

For basic info, see Small Business Cloud Essentials for 2013.

If you follow me on social media, which you can access from http://imagebuildingwebdesign.com, I send out regular marketing tips.

Good luck!
